A Karlovy Vary florist delivers flowers to Šemnice

Šemnice lies about 10 km east of Karlovy Vary on the River Ohře. The municipality comprises seven settlements, including Dubina, Sedlečko, Muzikov and Pulovice. The Šemnice municipal office is not in Šemnice itself but in the settlement of Dubina. The municipality is responsible for the single-class nursery school Duhová školka.

The first written record of the settlement of Šemnice dates to 1239. Above the Ohře valley, Šemnická skála is a natural monument designated in 1933 and a nesting site for the Eurasian eagle owl. Less than a kilometre east of Dubina is the national natural monument Skalky skřítků, with cavities in the rock face.
